Setup Hwb Authenticator App

Please note that the process to setup Authenticator has recently changed, you must follow the instructions below to setup Authenticator.

Before you follow the steps below I recommend obtaining an MFA Reset from a Digital Champion at your school or organisation. An MFA Reset will ensure you have the blank slate required to setup Authenticator from scratch. If your Digital Champion does not know how to do this they can find instructions here under the Resetting MFA on a device section. This is important, especially if you have a new mobile phone, have deleted the Authenticator app, have factory reset your mobile phone, or have previously tried to setup the Authenticator app. If you do not obtain an MFA Reset you may not be able to follow the instructions below.

Before you follow these instructions you must have the Authenticator app on your mobile phone. If you do not have the app please download it from the app store (eg Google Play or App Store) or click here for guidance on doing so.

Instructions for setting up Authenticator:

1. You must be using a laptop or a desktop computer (other devices will not work).

2. You must be connected to the school/trusted network (eg school WiFi or wired network). You cannot setup Authenticator from any other network, eg home WiFi or 5G.

3. Once you have access to a laptop or a desktop computer and you are connected to the school/trusted network click on this link: https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info

4. You will be prompted to sign in. Sign in with your Hwb account (unless you were already signed into Hwb, in which case skip to the next step below).

5. On the Security info page click on + Add sign-in method.

6. From the Choose a method drop-down list click on Authenticator app.

7. Click on Add and then Next.

8. You will see a QR code on your laptop/computer screen. Leave the QR code on the screen and open your mobile phone. Please note your mobile phone can be connected to any network, it will not effect the setup.

9. Open the Authenticator app, tap on the + sign (top right), then tap on Work or school account, then tap on Scan QR code.

10. Scan the QR code on your laptop or desktop screen (point your camera at the QR code and it will automatically scan).

11. Your Hwb account should now be visible in the Authenticator app confirming that you have successfully linked your app to your account.

12. Go back to the device you were using at the start of the setup process (laptop/desktop). Follow the remaining prompts, clicking Next until you see a message that the setup was successful (this is important as without doing this the setup will not be complete even though the Hwb account appears in your app).

You have now successfully setup Authenticator.
